Event
Horizon Calendar
This regularly updated calendar of New Edge culture events is compiled
by Cinnamon Twist and Michael
Gosney.
Digital
Be-In
Inspired by the spirit of the original Human Be-In held on January 14,
1967 at San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, the Digital Be-In has been an
annual "gathering of the cyber tribes," showcasing art and conscience
at the heart of the digital revolution. Digital
Be-In 13 — "The Transparent Network" — happened
May 29, 2004 at SOMARTS in San Francisco.
Burning
Man
The annual Burning
Man event has its roots in the same San Francisco art + cyber-culture
circles that the Digital Be-In and Anon Salon have evolved in...and the
Verbum collective has been involved in many events and camps at Black
Rock City, from the pyramid and saucer, to Community Dance events, to
Emerald City to the Church of WOW... to 2004's PLANET
WOW!
Paradox
Conference
Co-produced by Verbum and the Cosanti Foundation, three Paradox Conferences
have been held semi-annually since 1997 at Arcosanti, Paolo Soleri's model
Arcology in central Arizona. These visionary summits have brought together
leading thinkers and doers in sustainable development, urban architecture
and cyberspace design. Currently, Verbum is working with the Green
Century Institute on Paradox 4, planned for September, 2005.

Paradox
III - September 26-23, 2001
Paradox
II - September 24-26, 1999
Paradox
I - October 24-26, 1997
Anon
Salon
Since the early cyberculture days (late '80s) Verbum intersected with
Anon Salon via the community galvanized by the Verbum Journal and Verbum
Interactive CD-ROM projects, but mostly through the annual Digital Be-In
held each January in San Francisco. Joegh Bullock, Marcia Crosby and Mark
Petrakis produced the monthly mini-Be-Ins - the Anon Salons - that showcased,
in an ever-morphing multi-room interactive party, the melding of SF's
theater-cyber-psychedelic cultures. Today, the Anon crew continues to
produce state-of-the-art events in the Bay Area, at Burning Man, and beyond.
The annual Sea of Dreams New Years Party, held in 4 adjacent ballrooms
including the legendary Avalon Ballroom, has become the definitive 21st
Century SF New Year's event. Goz is a resident Anon Salon DJ, and collaborates
with the Anon circle from time to time.
Earthdance
The Verbum collective and Michael Gosney have supported the Earthdance
project since founder Chris Deckker moved from London to San Francisco
and set up shop in the Radio-V Studios at Anon Salon. Earthdance is developing
its 8th Global Dance Party for Peace, synchronizing over 100 events in
50 countries on September 18, 2004.
Planetwork
Planetwork is
an annual conference and monthly showcase meeting that explore the creative
application of digital tools – visualization technologies, software,
and the Internet, among others – that can open new possibilities
for positive global change.
