Verbum began in 1986 with the launch of the quarterly Verbum Journal. One of the first completely desktop published magazines, and the first to showcase and instruct on the art of digital media, Verbum was a key player in the genesis of the new industry, with sponsors Adobe, Apple, Radius and others. In early 1991, after catalyzing and chronicling the fast-evolving desktop design revolution, Verbum shipped Verbum Interactive, a multimedia version of the magazine and the first true multimedia CD-ROM. During the 1990s, the group produced many pioneering publishing, multimedia and web projects for clients such as Apple Computer, Toshiba, Kodak, Microsoft, Peter Norton, General Electric and Lucent Technologies. In 1998 Verbum launched the Radio-V electronic music web channel and weekly radio program.

Since the mid-1980s Verbum has produced many multimedia events, including the international Imagine Exhibit of Personal Computer Art, the Verbum Gallery openings in San Diego, the annual Digital Be-In cyberculture happenings in San Francisco, the Paradox Conference at Arcosanti, the Community Dance at Burning Man, and the Green Spirit Dance at the Green Festival. Currently, Verbum works with Anon Salon, Earthdance, the Burning Man Church of WOW and other events on production and strategic marketing.
